As natives of the Connecticut River Valley Oxbow in Northampton, we feel familiar at our new neighborhood Tavern. What a special surprise to find that it was open on Thanksgiving. Since none of us is a fan of turkey, we relished our quail, duck and lamb chops at a cozy table on a frigid fall holiday this year. Perfect with a bottle of Willamette Valley Pinot.
Christmas Eve lobsters at Alicat & Joe’s. Magnifique. Bobby Van’s on 50th. Just above Times Square fray. Yet close enough to walk to see Farinelli & the King, The Parisian Woman, or Meteor Shower. The food is average, but it’s lively and fun. Plaques above our corner table featured Eric Trump and Michael Flynn. Collusion! The Milling Room proved to be better than the first time we went. UWS’s landmark gathering spot the latest to close its doors. Isabella’s shuttered for good yesterday after decades of meeting, greeting and eating. One of the few outdoor cafes not blocked by shade of ugly dank scaffolding. You could actually sit in the sun. Sad.
